Photo-Mechanochemistry

We are pioneering the fusion of photochemistry and mechanochemistry to revolutionize synthesis methods. Photochemistry offers a promising avenue for green synthesis, harnessing clean and renewable light energy to activate chemical reactions without relying on traditional thermal energy. This approach not only minimizes environmental impact but also unlocks alternative chemical pathways inaccessible through thermal means. However, practical implementation of photochemical reactions often faces challenges, requiring high dilutions and large volumes of potentially harmful solvents. Moreover, solid-state photochemistry encounters limitations due to the poor penetration depth of photons in solid materials. In response to these challenges, our group has embarked on a novel approach by combining photochemistry with mechanochemistry. By leveraging the benefits of both techniques, we aim to create a synergistic effect, utilizing the constantly refreshing surface of mechanochemical reactions and the mild reaction conditions enabled by photochemistry.
